Prevention of Falls - Introductory

Enrol in Module

Anyone can have a fall, but falls are a major health concern for older people and can reduce their ability to remain independent.  The risk of falls, and hospitalisation as a result of a fall, rises as people age.

Falls prevention is everybody’s business in aged care. Although not every fall can be prevented, there are lots of things we can do to reduce the risk of falls, whether in aged care facilities or at home in our communities.

By completing this module, it is anticipated that you will be able to:

  • Understand falls and their impact on older people.
  • Identify the key environmental and personal risk factors of falls in older people.
  • Describe a person-centred approach to falls risk reduction and falls prevention in older people.
  • Recognise the importance of a multidisciplinary care team approach to falls prevention.

A Certificate of Completion will be awarded upon successful completion.
